A vacuum system pulls high-density polyethene pellets from a supply hopper. Colourant pellets are pulled from a separate supply hopper and mixed with HDPE pellets in a 4: 96 per cent ratio. The pellet mixture is then transferred to the injection moulding press via a vacuum system.

The pellets are heated in the press to make the hard helmet shell, and molten plastic is pumped into the mould. The press ejects the shell onto a conveyor belt and a worker picks up the shell and chops the sprue away.  Inside the shell, the worker glues a label that identifies the manufacturer as well as the required type and class designations.
